Cube

This sculpture is a study of the spatial qualities that can be achieved with simple construction methods. Each face is identical, peeling away as the edges approach the vertices. Each plate is 60 pounds of cast construction-grade concrete with reinforcement. The only connection between the plates is a set of angle brackets at the center of each edge which allow the plates to appear as if they are floating away from each other.

The connections are as minimal as possible: a threaded bolt fed through an angle bracket and spot welded to another perpendicular bolt cast into the adjacent face. Their strength allows the 360 pound cube to balance on any face, edge or vertex. The completed sculpture produces a variety of luminescent and acoustic qualities due to its textured convex interior surfaces.
