Project Title:

Magnetic Column

Shown:

UCLA Rumble 2017

This sculpture demonstrates the frozen aesthetic of magnetism as a column. A KUKA KR150 robot precisely places a strong magnetic panel which is used to shape an iron powder and resin mixture deposited by another robot arm. As one section hardens, another can be built off of it - thus the system is generatively produced.

This project acts as a proof of concept for a single method and material which can act as both an internal structure and an envelope.

This project was done in collaboration with Tian Lou and Nazli Tatar.
